Introduction 💕

Will you be my Val? turns a Valentine proposal into a guided mobile story - not a text thread.

From the opening typewriter ask to the RSVP confirmation, every screen balances romance with respect: playful persuasion when someone hesitates, graceful closure when they say no, and a celebratory finish when they say yes.

What the experience needed ✨

Designing for emotion, pacing, and consent

I mapped how people actually respond to romantic asks - the hesitation, the humor, the need to say no honestly - and turned those patterns into interaction rules before opening Figma.

AS IS

  • Flat chat message with no emotional pacing
  • Awkward silence after "no"
  • No clear next step after "yes"
  • Generic templates that feel impersonal

TO BE

  • Typewriter reveal builds anticipation
  • 15s reconsider with humor & warmth
  • RSVP modal closes the yes journey
  • Soft rejection + start over option

Reflection

What I learned

  • Pacing is the product. The typewriter animation isn't decoration - it mirrors the nervous energy of asking someone out.
  • Second chances need humor. The 15-second countdown turns "no" into a playful pause, not a dead end.
  • Respect the rejection path. A warm "maybe next time" screen with start over keeps the experience kind.
  • Close the yes loop. RSVP confirmation gives the happy path a real ending - not just a emoji reply.
Thank you for your time.
